Ultra Poor Programme (UPP)- Ujjibito

Goal:
Sustainable reduced hunger and poverty in Bangladesh.

BACKGROUND

Targeting the vulnerable and women-headed household, RRF began the “Ultra Poor Programme (UPP)-Ujjibito from November, 2016 in Khulna division with financial and technical support of Palli Karma-Shayak Foundation (PKSF), European Union (EU) and in association with Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). This project is being implemented focusing on Food Security and diverse safety net, in order to sustainable graduation from ultra-poverty of vulnerable and women-headed households. Reduction of hunger, enhancement of income generation with special concentration on household food and nutrition are the key inside attempts of this project. The RRF driven Microfinance Program’s ultra-poor beneficiaries and Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) driven Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Program’s beneficiaries are being considered for this project benefits. The ultimate objectives of this project are- Sustainable graduation from ultra-poverty of nearly 325,000 vulnerable and women-headed households, Graduation from ultra-poverty is taken to imply not rising above the lower poverty line, but actually achieving household nutrition security, non-food purchasing power, improved asset base and social status

Key Activities
– Social issues awareness raising programme for ultra-poor women beneficiaries and their family members i.e. Completion Primary Education, rights, access of assets, struggles and successes of the ultra poor, especially women.
– Regular counseling/awareness building on practical nutrition, homestead vegetable production, hygiene.
– Practical nutrition and reproductive health orientation for adolescent girls (12-18), newly-wed women, pregnant women and young mothers belonging to the beneficiary households.
– Identification and referral of severely malnourished babies and children <5 and pregnant and lactating women from the focal unions.
– Cash Grants and Asset transfer

Feature-01
“UPP-Ujjibito Held Free Blood Grouping Camp to Observe World Health Day 2016”

It was a great event as a part of observing the world health day. RRF UPP-Ujjibito program backed by PKSF made an event of free Blood Grouping Camp at Barnamoi Kindergarten School, Bagharpara In Jessore. In the camp 101 students got free blood grouping service. The Camp was facilaeted by FPAB. At that moment AD of Microfinance RRF Mr. Biddut Kumar Shaha and PC UPP-Ujjibito Mr Ashok was Present there. This event been done in the working area of Charavita microfinance branch office of the organization

Feature-02: “youth Club”; a youth initiative
It is really praiseworthy that RRF UPP-Ujjibito project has set up a youth club for project beneficiaries’s adolescent girls at Ramshara village of Prembagh Union in Abhaynagar Upazilla in Jessore district from January, 2016. This is of course an encouraging for the beneficiaries and the community people that such an impressive initiative keeps going with few pieces of excellent interventions like awareness on early marriage, dowry, reproductive health, volunteering, different games etc. 25 number of adolescent girls from ultra-poor family are the members of this club who are learning how to handle their this important period, and how to build their lives for future.

Major accomplishment (2015-16)
= Red spinach, basil, pumpkin and bottle-guard seeds have been given to 3200 members.
= 5600 cattle and poultry have been vaccinated
= 500 members have received Earthworm along with concrete ring with free cost who cultivate homestead vegetable using vermicompost and earn money by selling it.
= 03 members have received 8000 BDT each as grant for kicking off small business.
= 10 widows received 01 goat each free as grant.

o Vegetable seeds distribution to 17933 ultra-poor beneficiaries

o Establish 223 semi-commercial vegetable farms

o It has 38 adolescent clubs.
